WHY RIVERSIDE?

Community – Player – Coach – Performance

Founded in 1992, Riverside Hockey Club has grown into a thriving hub for athletes, offering state-of-the-art facilities, including two artificial turf pitches.

Our Senior Hockey Program combines advanced skill development and tactical training with a commitment to community and sportsmanship. Players compete at a high level, including events like the Belgotex Elite Club Challenge, under the guidance of experienced coaches.

But Riverside is more than a hockey club—it’s a community-driven institution. We:

  • Develop athletes with a high-performance mindset.
  • Provide opportunities for skill-building, education, and personal growth.
  • Support schools, families, and underprivileged communities in a healthy, inclusive environment.
  • Enhance mental resilience and competition readiness through expert coaching.

At Riverside, we cultivate excellence both on and off the field, fostering integrity, respect, and lifelong success.

Join the legacy. Be part of something greater.

Riverside Hockey Club

Guiding principles

Restoring sportsmanship and civility in South African sports is a shared responsibility. Riverside Hockey Club recognises the need to educate coaches and players from the grassroots level, both in schools and within the club. Our core beliefs in high-performance sports provide the opportunity to foster physical and mental discipline, self-improvement, and personal growth. These values ultimately enhance teamwork, both on and off the field.

01
Respect

Players must always demonstrate respect, courtesy, and civility toward opponents, coaches, officials, and spectators. Uphold the spirit of the game and embody the highest standards of sportsmanship.

02
Commitment

Commitment stems from the desire for success. At RHC, members can define personal goals to guide their journey toward peak performance.

03
Humility

Failure is part of the game. Good sportsmanship means avoiding excuses or blame. Coaches and members will stay composed, learn, and focus on preparing for the next game.

04
Discipline

Sportsmanship means self-control and respect. Taunting or humiliating others—teammates, opponents, or officials—has no place at RHC. Our members will be taught these core values.

05
Responsibility

Players and leaders are responsible for attending practice. Leaders should exemplify sportsmanship through both actions and words, guiding others by their example.

06
Honour

Character and sportsmanship should never be sacrificed for the sake of winning. RHC values the honorable pursuit of victory over the outcome itself.

07
Excellence

Excellence is defined by personal mastery, skill development, and giving one’s best effort. Success is measured by the effort to reach personal potential.

08
Teamwork

Teamwork is reflected in individual behaviour. A true team player rejects unsportsmanlike conduct and fosters grit and confidence, even in competition.
